Paradhi Vikas

Aarogya Rakshak- Keshav Aarogya Rakshak Yojana (Village level health worker) covers 30 hamlets of Paradhis. 30 Paradhi youth are trained to dispense first aid and other useful medicines looking to the primary symptoms of the patient. Complicated / Serious cases are directed to the experts nearby.

Health Camps - Periodic health check up camps for women are organized on Paradhi localities (bedas). Physical check up along with awareness on health related issues and personal health care of women is carried out in the daylong camps.

Hostel - DBPM has been running two hostels for boys of Paradhi community in Yavatmal city & Arvi (Dist. Wardha). “Vivekanand chhatravas” (Yavatmal) & “Disha Paradhi Vikas Prakalp” (Arvi) have proved to be the centers of “sanskar” (value education) for the younger generation of Paradhi community. Today 40 boys are enjoying this facility.

Center for Technical Education - In a view to make the newer generation self-employed, training in trades like electrician, motor winding, two wheeler repairing, welding, paper conversion etc is imparted to the students living in the hostel. A course on computer education is specially designed & run regularly for these students in the hostel premises.

Deepavali Visits - When every Indian is busy with Diwali (Deepavali) celebrations with sweets & wearing new cloths/dresses, Paradhis are away from this atmosphere. DBPM volunteers, realizing the situation, have been organizing “Deepavali Milan (Deepavali get-togethers)” from last 10 years.. Families from urban area of Yavatmal district visit the paradhi localities (paradhi bedas) and celebrate Deepavali with these families. Women and children are gifted with a sari as bhaubeej / bhaiyya dooj (gift from brother), idol of goddess Lakshmi and sweet. Till today @ 2000 paradhi families have been involved in these get-togethers. These get-togethers have helped not only in bringing this neglected strata into the main stream, but also in exposure to the reality of their struggle of life to the well to do class of society.

Self Help Groups - DBPM has organised the community through 25 SHGs run at 22 locations. Members of these SHGs are now trying for newer ways of employment like goat farming, backyard poultry, farming, etc.

Paradhi Vikas Parishad - Paradhi Vikas Parishad is a common platform for the members of Paradhi community to interact with each other on issues & problems of development the community.DBPM is part of this network.
Shetkari Vikas Prakalp
The objectives of Dindayal Shetkari Vikas Prakalp are:
- To alleviate the plight of farmers.
- To prevent further suicides.
- To help the youth & women to get into right agri-related vocations by empowering them through self-help groups. (SHGs)

Educational support -
Objective of this initiative is to accept guardianship of students who have lost their fathers and to provide financial support for education to needy students. More than 25 children are benefited through this initiative.

Distribution of seeds -
Seeds, for cropping on @ 1 hectare land, are distributed to needy farmers, just before monsoon; @ 700 farmers are supported under this program.

Training programs on organic farming -
Excessive use of chemical fertilizers & pesticides in farming has degraded the quality of soil considerably resulting in deficit farming. To overcome this situation DBPM has organized training programs for farmers on “organic farming”(chemical free farming) with the help of local experts. More than 1000 farmers participated in these trainings at 6 locations.

Self Help Groups (SHGs) and trainings -
In a view to overcome lonely feeling of the needy farmers more than 43 SHGs are organized. Along with trainings on goat-farming, piggery, small scale village level daal-mill, threshers, etc. members of these SHGs have been provided financial support for these endeavors.
- Diwali celebrations - With a view to rebuild the bond of maternal relationship volunteers of DBPM go to the residence of the widows of suicide hit farmers’ families on the day of bhayya-dooj (bhau beej) during diwali and get them involved in the celebration. As a gift from these brothers they offer sweet, an idol of goddess Lakshmi and a saree. @150 no. of families have been covered till today.
- Watershed work - Rain fed farming coupled with poor irrigation facility plays vital role in deficit farming. With a view to facilitate the farmers with availability of water for farming, a pilot project of watershed development is initiated in village Pathari of Pandharkawada (Kelapur) block of Yavatmal district. Silted bunds and percolation tank of this village will be repaired under this program. The villagers have agreed to contribute through “shram daan” in this endeavor.
Other Activities
- Shivajirao Kharate Library - A library project is initiated by DBPM in the memory of former joint secretary late Shivajirao Kharate. The library carries books on various walks of life, useful especially for the personality development of Paradhi & other youth.
- Dindayal Award - “Dindayal Seva Puraskar” (Dindayal Award) is conferred every year up on person engaged in remarkable selfless service of the society. The program is organized on 25th September of every year, birth date of Pt. Deendaylji Upadhyay.
